Institute of International Education’s Harnessing Innovation through Virtual Exchange for Enhanced Results partners teaching faculty at universities in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, the Palestinian Territories, Morocco, Tunisia, and the United States to add a virtual exchange component to regularly offered courses in diverse fields of study. The virtual exchange component gives students from different backgrounds and cultures, including those with limited exchange opportunities (such as first-generation, refugee, and female and minority students), the ability to interact and learn with one another. Participants engage in structured activities and dialogue in the subject matter of their courses and on issues of regional and global significance that enhance their global competencies, leadership potential, and career-readiness skills.

Activities

Students engage in a variety of virtual exchange activities related to their course topic, including classroom-to-classroom dialogues and collaborative experiential learning opportunities, as well as interactive leadership sessions with students from various HIVER courses. Participants also collaborate on projects, complete readings, or view lectures prior to class-wide discussions, and complete pre-or post-leadership session assignments on the HIVER Linkr platform. Participants whose group projects are nominated join virtual project competitions at the end of their program, where winning teams advance to an in-person final competition and receive coaching.
