Green River College’s Pacific Northwest and MENA COIL Consortia Building trains higher education faculty to collaborate with international counterparts and develop interdisciplinary, global exchange courses. This network fosters high quality virtual exchanges on a variety of topics between universities while building Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) consortia in the regions. Through project-based learning connected to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, participating students will develop confidence and interpersonal skills, empowering them to solve global challenges.

Activities

Faculty from the Middle East and North Africa and the United States will work together to design a COIL course in their area of study, develop infrastructure for virtual exchange at their institutions, and build instructional capacity. Participating students use Linkr — an online platform that supports virtual exchange — to exchange ideas, participate in discussions, and collaborate on global projects. They will build knowledge of other cultures and gain experience working on global teams. Topics explored vary based on the needs of each course, but may include: civic engagement; language learning; and digital literacy.
