The International Foundation for Training and Development and the Onslow County School District’s Youth for Sustainable Development Goals Virtual Exchange Program brings together and engages high school aged students, grades 9-12, to learn about the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), why they are important, and what these goals represent for students and their community.
The program focuses on three SDGs: 4-Quality Education, 10-Reducing Inequalities, and 17-Partnerships. Trained facilitators engage students in both synchronous (live) and asynchronous exchanges. Through facilitated lessons focused on social studies/world affairs and arts education, participants develop greater global awareness while building critical 21st century skills and attitudes.
Activities
Participants research and discuss different historical perspectives and capture best avenues to represent the three selected sustainable goals: Quality Education, Reducing Inequities, and Partnerships through social studies/world affairs and the arts. Through problem-based learning, U.S. and Moroccan students cross-collaborate to co-create products such as paintings, drawings, sculptures, presentations, stories, and videos that reflect the overreaching SDG and solutions for achieving it, culminating in a digital showcase to further enhance learning and the power of global partnership.
